The Shared Research Computing Services (ShaRCS) Pilot is endorsed by the UC Chancellors, Executive Vice Chancellors, the Vice Chancellors for Research, and the Chief Information Officers. ShaRCS is a critical investment in shared computing initiatives. It lays the foundation for UC's research cyber infrastructure and will be a critical element for maintaining and enhancing our academic leadership.
The pilot project will measure and demonstrate how shared research computing clusters residing in regional data centers can provide high quality computing services to principal investigators and their staffs and students at a lower cost to UC. When fully operational, this collaborative effort will include all of the UC campuses, the UC Office of the President, and multiple UC facilities, including Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the San Diego Supercomputer Center.
I look forward to a positive outcome from the ShaRCS pilot project and to having it pave the way to greater collaboration across all of the University of California in support of our world-class research programs.
